The son of an African-American Judge is killed by police officers on the day he was set to begin law enforcement academy. When the courts clear the officers of wrongdoing, the Judge must decide whether the courts are the only arbitrators of justice.。四个年轻人——本·布莱梅、菲尔·克莱恩、罗宾·安伯格和福兰克·雅格——都有着同样的梦想：成为空军飞行员。在通过了体能考试后，他们被派到德州接受训练。艰苦的训练很快就让他们达到了极限。罗宾意识到当飞行员并没有自己预想的那么光荣；菲尔的健康状况也越来越糟；福兰克的妻子提出了离婚的要求；本在最后一次训练中发生事故而丧生。尽管如此，剩下的三个兄弟也没有放弃自己的梦想。 训练归来后，飞行员们出色的完成了各种任务，在这个过程中，他们的意志，自信，都经受了一次又一次的考验。。
